A steep block, a lot of trees, and the sea in front of it
Bush blocks make the design. Gum trees move shade across a roof through the day and across the year, so where the panels go is decided by what the trees do in July rather than by which face is biggest. The house has a corrugated metal roof, which is the easiest roof there is to fix to and the one that asks the fewest questions about penetrations.
Storage on a block like this stops being only about the bill. The battery is what keeps the lights, the fridge and the pump running through an outage, and the gateway switches over without anybody in the house doing anything.
A Powerwall, its Expansion Pack, and everything labelled
A Tesla Powerwall 3 and a Powerwall 3 Expansion Pack sit on a concrete blade wall outside, with the gateway beside them and the isolators labelled ES and PV AC. The Expansion Pack is the reason there are two cabinets and only one of everything else: it is storage alone, with no inverter and no gateway of its own, so it adds 13.5 kWh to the Powerwall it hangs off rather than repeating it. Outdoors is the right answer on a house like this — the units are rated for it, the wall is masonry, and it keeps the switchboard run short.
The gateway is the part that does the thing people actually want. It watches the street, and when the street stops it opens the connection and runs the house off the stored charge instead. Nobody in the house has to do anything.

Before the visit
Send us two bills, one from summer and one from winter, and tell us roughly when your house is busy. Your own numbers are where the design starts.
Site visit or phone consultation
One of our energy geeks goes through the roof, the switchboard and the meter with you, at the house or over the phone. What goes where, what the roof can carry and whether the board has room all get settled here.
Customised design
A Sunstak engineer designs the system in house. You get back a drawing of your own house with the equipment set out on it, and what decided where each piece went.
Quote approval
Your quote lists every item with its model number, and the exclusions as plainly as the inclusions. There is nothing to sign on the day, and nothing is ordered until you approve it.
Installation
We tell you up front what gets switched off on the day, and for how long.
Post-installation support
Nobody leaves until the system is commissioned and the monitoring is running on your phone. After that, service and warranty go through the same office that did the install.
