Solar and battery rebates in Canberra, the ACT and NSW
A Canberra home battery gets the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount off your invoice. The ACT Sustainable Household Scheme lends you up to $20,000 at 3% interest. The ACT has no battery cash rebate today. In NSW, the Home Energy Saver scheme lends up to $15,000 at zero interest. Which of these you can use depends on your address.

The federal battery discount
Your federal discount comes off the price of your battery when your installer takes it at the point of sale. You make no claim yourself. Your battery needs solar on the roof, new or existing, and it must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list. The discount follows the usable storage of your battery, up to 50 kWh. Your second battery adds less discount than your first.

These discounts are for installs up to 31 December 2026, worked out at $37 a certificate.
The discount gets smaller every six months, and your installation date sets the figure you get. The factor is 6.8 for installs to 31 December 2026, then 5.7 from 1 January 2027. Read how it works on the federal battery discount page.
ACT rebates and loans
Sustainable Household Scheme
The ACT Sustainable Household Scheme lends from $2,000 to $20,000 at 3% interest, repaid over up to 10 years. Your loan can cover a home battery and an EV charger. Households in the scheme before 1 July 2026 stay on the earlier cap of $15,000. Brighte is the loan provider.
Home Energy Support Program
ACT homeowners with an eligible concession card can get a rebate of 50% of the cost, up to $2,500, on rooftop solar. Batteries are missing from the product list for this rebate. You can pair the rebate with a zero-interest loan of up to $10,000.
The old ACT battery rebate
The Next Generation Energy Storage program was the ACT battery rebate. Its last installs were due 31 March 2023, and the ACT has no battery cash rebate today.

NSW rebates and loans
Home Energy Saver
The NSW Home Energy Saver scheme lends up to $15,000 at zero interest, repaid over up to 10 years. You need to own the home, as an owner-occupier or landlord, with a household income up to $210,000. Your loan can cover rooftop solar and a home battery.
