The useful thing about a tank is that it holds heat. Make the water while your roof is producing and you shower on it the next morning, on power the house made itself.
Heat the tank while the sun is on the roof
The controller decides when the heat pump runs, and the time worth choosing is the middle of the day, when your roof is making more than the house is using. The heat stays in the tank overnight. The shower you take at seven was paid for at noon.
Nothing switches on behind it at night
An electric storage tank keeps an element on standby to top the water back up. Sanden fits no backup element, so once the heat pump has finished for the day nothing else in the tank is drawing power.
We take the old one away
The system you are replacing comes out on the same visit and leaves with us. You get a hydraulic certificate of compliance for the plumbing, and your controller is set before we go.
Where the two halves come from
Sanden engineers and builds the heat pump in Japan and makes the tank in Australia out of stainless steel. The two carry different warranty terms, and the terms are set out under the specification below.
Stainless, so there is nothing in the tank being used up
A glass-lined cylinder runs on a sacrificial rod that corrodes so the steel underneath does not, and somebody has to replace it once it is spent. Stainless carries enough chromium to protect itself and needs no rod, which is one service item off your house. We set both linings out in full on the Panasonic CO₂ hot water page.
Heat is what finds a weak lining
Sunstak's own factsheet on tank linings makes the point about this unit by name: a Sanden runs at higher temperatures, and a hotter tank is harder on a glass lining than a warm one. The cylinder here is stainless, so the tank is not something you have to book a service for.

What Sanden states about the Eco Plus
The Eco Plus runs on R744, which is carbon dioxide working as a refrigerant. Sanden's figure for it is 0.84 kW of electricity in for 4.99 kW of heat out. That is about 20% of the energy an electric storage system needs for the same job, on Sanden's own claim. The outdoor unit is rated at 37 dB, has frost protection built into it and needs no backup element. The tank is stainless steel, made in Australia, in 250 L and 300 L, sold as the GAUS-250FQS and the GAUS-300FQS.

Help with what it costs
Hot water heat pumps attract federal small-scale technology certificates, or STCs, in their own right. The value of them comes off what you pay on the day, and how many there are depends on the model and on where your house is.
The ACT Sustainable Household Scheme lends against work like this, and it is arranged before anybody starts on your house. The ACT rebates and loans page carries the terms. Households holding a concession card have a second door, the ACT Home Energy Support Program, and that one pays a rebate.
